Dr. Gaurav Prakash has done his ophthalmic residency and corneal fellowship from the reputed All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, UK and International Council of Ophthalmology. He has also been a visiting ophthalmologist at University of Rochester, USA. 

Dr. Gaurav has extensive experience in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery. He has performed and supervised more than 10,000 LASIK and refractive surgical procedures, more than 5,000 phacoemulfications and 700 corneal transplants. He was one of the earliest surgeons in India performing bladeless LASIK.

He was the first surgeon in the UAE to be certified on the iDesign and VSSR LASIK platform.

His specialties include Cornea and Refractive Surgery, Bladeless Wavefront guided LASIK (iLASIK), Advanced Surface ablation (PRK, epilasik), Implantable collamer lenses, Collagen cross linking, advanced phacoemulsification, corneal transplants (including DALK, DSAEK), clinical research.

Dr. Gaurav is an avid academician-scientist and has more than 65 peers reviewed international publications and multiple international meeting presentations. He is also peer reviewer for nine international indexed journals and is an instructor at various international conferences in USA, Asia and Europe.

  • While still in fellowship at AIIMS, he discovered a rare visual disorder: higher order aberration associated amblyopia. It has been cited by multiple researchers and published in international journals.
  • His research and outcomes in thin flap LASIK, wavefront guided LASIK and surface ablation has been published and presented in journals like American Journal of Ophthalmology, JCRS, IOVS and Eye.
  • He was the first surgeon to publish randomized controlled trials (RCT) on flap thickness variations in thin flap bladeless LASIK and on outcomes of LASIK with and without dynamic intraoperative tracking. He also device and published a new technique ‘three-pass underpass‘ which enhances the safety of thin flap LASIK further. 

Dr. Gaurav is an active member, teacher and collaborator for ophthalmic societies such as American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is on the ophthalmology editorial board of the journal WebMedCentral.

He is also and international member of the high IQ society Mensa International (http://www.mensa.org/).

As a teacher and trainer, he has supervised more than 25 fellows including doctors from USA, Middle East, India, UK and Africa.
